Imperfections Charges October 2024 – September 2025 and Reforecast Report October 2022 – September 2023 Decision Paper

Today, 10th September 2024, the Regulatory Authorities (RAs) are publishing a Decision Paper on the SEM Committee’s Imperfections Charge.

SONI and EirGrid, together the Transmission System Operators (TSOs) for the all-island Single Electricity Market (SEM), control the transmission of electricity and the management of various network constraints. These network constraints create additional costs within the SEM as the TSOs are required to allow for such constraints in real time and increase or decrease individual generator’s output of electricity to ensure the balance between supply and demand of electricity is maintained at all times.

Constraint costs are recovered through the Imperfections Charge and this Decision Paper details the Imperfections tariff to be applied in Tariff Year 2024/25.

The SEM Comittee has decided the Imperfections Charge for Tariff Year 2024/25 will be €567.21 million, equivalent to an estimated Imperfections Price of €14.62/MWh. This is a reduction of €24.81 million from the TSOs’ original forecast charge of €592.02 million (equivalent to an estimated Imperfections Price of €15.25/MWh)
